About Us

The Hunter Shul is keeping Torah Yiddishkeit alive and functioning in Hunter, NY.  We strive to provide an acceptable arena to pray and have an area where people can sit and study.  We currently see a growth trend that could lead to a sharp increase in our ability to have minyanim.

We are in the process of providing a permanent structure that will allow for services and use all year long.  In the interim, we daven at the historic Hunter Synagogue, 7879 Main St, Hunter, NY 12442.

The Hunter Shul is an independent Orthodox minyan.

Although we rent space from the Hunter Synagogue, we are not affiliated with the synagogue itself.

Orthodox Jews have been coming to Hunter since the late 1800’s. The first Shul was built by Harry Fischel around 1903 and stood until the mid 1930’s. The current Hunter Synagogue was built around 1913. In the almost 110 years of its existence, many families have come to call Hunter their summer home and the beautiful Shul, their place of worship. The natural beauty, fresh air and seclusion from larger communities, has made Hunter the preferred destination for seeking a respite from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. The Shul Kiddush on Shabbos morning gives everyone the opportunity to meet, greet and schmooze.

The Hunter Shul welcomes all Jews from all backgrounds and we hope and pray that each person will find the relationship with HaKadosh Baruch Hu that they seek, the strength they need to fulfill that relationship and the community support they need to maintain their role in the Jewish Community.
